Our Foundation

Founded in 1984, the Brewster Education Foundation, is a non-profit education foundation dedicated to supporting public education for the Brewster Central School District.

The idea for the foundation took shape in 1983 through a collaboration between then Brewster High School Assistant Principal Joseph Sabatella and Director of Student Services George Zupko. Under the leadership of former Superintendent of Schools James Monk, and with the support of the Board of Education and dedicated community leaders, the Brewster Education Foundation was incorporated in 1984. It was the first school foundation in New York established for the express purpose of supporting a public school district.

Independent of the district, the Brewster Education Foundation raises funds for projects beyond those supported by regular school resources. This includes awarding scholarships for student’s academic achievements and supporting educators with grants for meaningful learning opportunities. The Foundation has also become the administrator of a growing number of financial endowments established by community members in the name of friends and loved ones. The Foundation has established itself as an integral part of the support system for public education in the Brewster School District and involves the community in the pursuit of excellence in education.

The Brewster Education Foundation is wholly run by dedicated community volunteers whose investment in the success of Brewster schools and its students drive their involvement.
